charmy & nimisha

Nimisha and Charmy grew up in completely contrasting atmospheres and environments. Nimisha Brahmbhatt grew up in a small town in India with extreme limitations on what she could do, wear, or even how she could behave. While growing up, it was made very clear that “beauty” was not of the highest importance. To understand how she was raised, she told us a story about how she was not allowed to wear jeans in her town. Through the years, she had gotten her eyebrows done a handful of times, and every time she was asked numerous questions on why she felt the need to get them done.

She spent her days focusing on her education, and soon enough, she was married at 20 years old. Her wedding was the first time she had ever worn makeup in her life. After marriage, she realized that beauty in society's eyes was to have a lighter skin tone, have thin lips, bright eyes, and belong to a respectful family. However, she had always believed in natural beauty and staying healthy above anything else.

After having a daughter, naturally, Nimisha’s biggest worry was about her daughter going out in the world and feeling burdened by societal pressures of looking a certain way. With this in mind, she raised Charmy to see the beauty in simplicity and being natural. Despite growing up in a world where the idea of being “perfect” is so amplified, Charmy stays true to the lessons taught by her mom. She explains that even though, as a society, we talk about accepting all body types, skin tones, and other unique features, there is still a very cookie cutter ideal look that everyone strives for. However, Charmy has always unapologetically been herself with her mom right by her side!
