anoshinie.

Anoshinie is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, adjudicator, and aspiring actor. From a very young age, she knew that dance would be her life. Growing up in a Tamil household, her South Asian parents supported her passion of becoming a performing artist and enrolled her in the traditional Bharatanatyam dance form at the young age of 5. From then onwards, she has never looked back and has broken all the rules to successfully thrive in this industry.

For Anoshinie, dance was a savior. It always a familiar friend who she went to anytime she was feeling down; when nothing else made sense; and when she was angry, sad or happy.

Many dancers and artists can relate to having their art being belittled as “just a hobby,” when in all honesty it is a career choice and life-line. Anoshinie’s story is one and the same. Growing up, she had always viewed dance as a mere hobby, but she learned to fight against all odds to make it her career. Through dance, she was able to explore her boundaries and break out of her comfort zone.

Now, she utilizes her platform to advocate for other South Asian artists to challenge the conventional norms, push through barriers, and change the narrative when it comes to dance.
